Uploaded .png files being converted to .jpg

Noticed this with a post yesterday by another user. Files uploaded were all .png files, but the attachments ended up being .jpgs.
Happened to me as well, in this post. I selected a .png file, but after uploading, the file shows as a .jpg in the attachment upload window, and subsequently as the attached file.


Is this intentional?
