First of all, this is my first post here. Nice to meet you all!
First, a little background info: I've been playing Illusion H-games with the HF patches as well as various visual novels with AGTH (in order to understand the plot) on Windows 7 64-bit for a few years now, with absolutely no problems. HF pAppLocale is a fantastic tool for running Japanese games (thanks Inquisitor and co.), and if it doesn't work, changing the system to Japanese and installing to C: usually allows me to boot into the game. This basically means that, in conjunction with AGTH for automatic translation, I can play any Japanese game I acquire.
However, unfortunately, the computer I play these games on is now broken beyond repair, and I'll soon buy a new one. The new laptop will very probably come with Windows 8 64-bit (I've been meaning to upgrade before a new computer came into the equation as well).
But herein lies the problem: I've heard reports of older visual novels simply not working due to library changes in Windows 8 (the KiriKiri engine seems to be particularly affected). But a lot of the games I used to play KiriKiri or were old to begin with. Some comments on the Internet are especially worrying.
My problem/question is: I'm concerned that Windows 8 will not make it easy for me to continue enjoying the games I've listed above and on the thread title. So I want to ask anyone who's using Windows 8 64bits if they can run HF AppLocale, AGTH, and Visual Novels and 3D Japanese games (Illusion etc) with no problems, and if there is any known workaround for older games and KiriKiri games.
I guess a TL;DR would be: Is there any way to keep the same Windows 7 compatibility with the software I listed on Windows 8? What has been your experience so far? Thank you for your time!
